About
Brains SA Gold is the younger brother of the good old SA. Released in 2006, SA Gold is the newest of Brains’ main products.
Unlike SA, Gold adds the hops (Cascade, Target and Styrian Golding) later on to give a hoppier aroma and taste.
Winner of a Bronze Champion Beer of Wales CMARA award in 2008. And at the 2011 Brewing Industry International Awards it won the Cask Ale – Class 3 – Bronze Award.
Review
Pours a clean golden colour. The aroma is quite ‘summery’ with a strong hops presence- there are also notes of orangey citrus too.
The taste is hoppier compared with that of original SA. Again the citrus comes through. A very refreshing clean smooth palate.
The finish is dry.
Overall I’d say that Gold is more pleasant than SA on the nose and a more accessible taste too.
