About
Brains SA is now the flag-ship of their premier beers. Named after their founder, Samuel Arthur (also colloquially known as ‘Skull Attack’) it was introduced in the 1950’s as SA Best Bitter.
The brew uses a blend of pale and crystal malts as well as three varieties of hops: Challenger, Goldings and Fuggles which are balanced flavours to give SA its unique taste. In 2006 the quantity of these hops was increased.
Review
Pours a nutty golden, syrup like colour with an off-white head. The aroma is quite strong with citrus and hoppy at the front.
It’s quite thin in the mouth with hoppy earthy tones. Somewhat a biscuit and malty taste.
The finish is very dry and warm at the back of the throat. Overall a decent, average bitter.
